Jussi Alanen

Hi, I’m Jussi Alanen, an experienced web and software developer from Joensuu in North Karelia, Finland. I’m a friendly, easygoing geek who has loved computers, software, and video games since childhood.

Most of my career has been in WordPress development. Over the years, I’ve worked long-term on many challenging and interesting projects, including work for public-sector organisations and city-owned companies. Integrations and REST APIs are among my strongest areas: I’ve connected websites and applications to payment services, ERP systems for customers and orders, insurance platforms, and more. I’ve also built news feeds for business customers’ websites, carried out data migrations, and handled SEO and GEO (generative engine optimisation) to make sites easier to find in search engines and AI answers.

Today, I have over ten years of professional experience in software development. My career began with PHP, HTML, and CSS, then expanded into JavaScript and frameworks such as Laravel, React, Vue.js, and Next.js, among other technologies. JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js are now among my core skills, along with SQL across several database systems. In my work, I also handle Google Cloud and a range of other cloud infrastructure, and I’ve delivered customer projects on AWS and Azure too. I enjoy solving complex problems and building practical software. AI solutions are also part of my skill set, and I’m keen to keep exploring how they can make applications more useful.

It all started with a Sega console and our first IBM desktop computer with a CRT monitor. As the years passed and our computers improved, playing games turned into a curiosity about how software works. That curiosity eventually led me to web development: as a teenager in the 2000s, I started writing my first web pages in PHP, and I tried a bit of game programming too.

I completed my primary education at Utra School and my lower secondary education at Pataluoto School in Joensuu. I then qualified as an electrician in 2010. In 2013, I graduated from Karelia University of Applied Sciences with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, specialising in web application development. I did well in my studies and received recognition for my work, including scholarships, one of them from the Starckjohann Foundation, during my time at Karelia.

Outside work, I enjoy going to the gym, spending time in nature, and baking—especially cheesecakes and homemade pizza. I also play video games and build personal projects with a range of technologies, including web applications in Python, Java, C#, and Vue.js. I share them on GitHub, many with live demos.

I love spending time with my canine friends, too. I have a soft spot for Shiba Inus and Corgis, and I hope to have a dog of my own someday.
